Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has asked politicians to keep off Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) affairs and allow the commission to prepare for credible August 8 general election.
According to Kabogo, the Wafula Chebukati led commission needs ample time and space to prepare for the general election.
Kabogo warns that political interference into IEBC activities will paralyse the commission’s work ahead of the August polls.
“Politicians must keep off IEBC and allow the commission time and space to prepare for credible polls,” he said on Tuesday.
The Kiambu governor noted that IEBC has a lot of work and activities to do in readiness for the general election.
He asked politicians and political parties to conduct their own activities and stop bothering the electoral commission.
A section of political parties among them President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party wants IEBC to conduct their party primaries.
President Kenyatta’s party has requested the Chebukati led commission to conduct its nominations, a move that has been opposed by a section of opposition leaders.
A section of opposition leaders have accused JP of allegedly forcing the IEBC to conduct its primaries.
Jubilee Party maintains that it’s the responsibility of IEBC to conduct party primaries as per the constitution.
The electoral commission says that it’s considering the request by JP but notes that it has a lot of activities to do in preparation for August election.
