Speaking to locals at Kiambu town on Saturday, Njomo said that the ongoing teachers’ strike needs a solution to enable students go to school.

The MP asked the national government, especially the ministry of education, and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to intervene.

“We want the national government to intervene and address the concerns being raised by teachers, it is wrong for our children to stay home because of the strike,” said the MP.

Njomo said that students will continue to suffer if the government takes too long to address teachers concerns, terming it as serious, and would affect the performance of students in national examinations.

The lawmaker suggested that the education unit be devolved to counties, so that teacher’s issues can be tackled at county levels.

The legislator also urged the government to put in place strategies that will improve education standards.

He said that the constituency will reward Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) students who performed exemplary well in the recently announced results.
