The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission should be given more powers in its fight against fight corruption, an MP has said.
Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter said currently, the commission is toothless thus cannot effectively fight graft.
"The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has failed in the fight against corruption since it does not have the powers to arrest and prosecute those involved in the vice," he said.
He said it’s hard for the EACC to prosecute the big fish and the “untouchables” due to the little powers it has.
"The commission should be given more powers and funding for it to fight corruption effectively. It should also be independent without political interference," said Keter at the Sports Club in Eldoret during the Kass Marathon on Sunday.
He added that by the commission being independent, it will conduct its duties in a free and transparent manner and all corrupt suspects will face the wrath of the law.
"Many cases have been investigated and the suspects found guilty but since the commission lacks the powers to arrest and prosecute, they are released after paying some money," he added.
