Residents of Ekerenyo in Nyamira have asked the county leadership to avail ambulances in every ward in the county in a bid to tackle emergencies.
Speaking on Thursday after receiving the sad news of a mother who passed on at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital due to birth complications, they said it was difficult for the family of the deceased, Ms Pamela Ndemo, to access a vehicle in the middle of the night.
According to them, the ambulances that were purchased by the county government have not been helping residents since they are all stationed in the county headquarters in Nyamira.
“We are very sad that we can lose lives just because of transport systems. Many people find it difficult to take sick people to hospital especially at night and this is really serious because we have just lost a woman who was giving birth due to delay,” said Nyagaka Moseti.
“The county government should ensure every ward is served with an ambulance so that emergency issues are dealt with in an amicable manner,” added Felix Onyinkwa.
They asked members of county assembly to make a law that will see their concern recognised in the county laws soon.
“We can deal with this problem amicably if the MCAs make a law that will compel the county leadership to effect our concerns. I am sure every resident will be happy if we get ambulances at the grass root level,” Onyinkwa added.
Nyamira County has 20 wards and if their concerns are affected, it will see the county adding 12 more ambulances to the existing eight to make up the number.
