Kenya has the capacity to do contractor jobs offered to Chinese contractors, says Uasin Gishu county governor Jackson Mandago.
Mandago was speaking during the official launching of the Sosiani Bridge in Eldoret town that will link Eldoret town and Pan Villa, Rivatex and Langas estates.
The construction of the Bridge funded by the county government of Uasin Gishu is being done by local contractors.
“The construction of this Bridge is using precast technology one of the latest technologies. Have you seen any Chinese man working here? Its construction and supervision is by local contractors. Kenya has the capacity to build these roads and bridges on ourselves,” said Mandago.
Mandago called upon the national government and other county governments in the country to consider leasing contracts to local contractors citing that this will help develop local contractors and the economy of Kenya too.
Mandago also added that contractors from the country will help money circulation in the country and is even cheaper than contractors from other countries.
“We borrow money from the Chinese then give them back their money,” he added.
He said that giving contracts to local contractors is also another way of creating employment to members of the public as well as developing infrastructure.
