Former Mbitini MCA Dickson Mutaiti has urged the State to give relief food to Makueni county residents who are facing starvation due to drought.
According to Mutaiti, the county government is facing a crisis due to lack of fund and about 100,000 residents are at risk of dying from hunger. He said the national and county governments should cooperate to send relief food to residents.
Mutaiti urged the Treasury to release funds to the county.
He said the number of school dropouts may increase if school feeding programme will not be started.
"Livestock farmers should sell their animals before they starve since about 98% of the animals have lost a lot of weight due to the severe drought", Mutaiti said.
He pointed out the sub counties worst hit by drought such as Kibwezi, Makindu, Kathonzweni, Mbitini, Kasikeu, Mbooni East and some parts of Kilome, Kiati and Mbooni West.
