Speaking on Thursday in Kisii town, Hache said it has been difficult for married women to acquire national ID cards using their husbands ‘names for long but she has said once a woman is married for more than 6 months there is a need to be allowed the use of husbands’ name.

“Those women who have been in a marriage for more that six months in a particular family should be allowed to acquire ID cards using their husbands’ name,” she said.

“I urge location chiefs to give them letters that allow them to use their husbands’ name to process ID cards,” added Hache.

She also said any person should be vetted before processing for an ID card according to government rules to know where the person comes from.

“Vetting should be done before processing for a ID card to show transparency in our country,” insisted Hache.
