Bungoma senator Moses Wetang’ula has asked the government to provide politicians with enough security as the country heads into the August 8 poll.

Speaking at Avenue Hospital in Kisumu, Wetangula castigated the attack on Opposition leader Raila Odinga while he was in Turkana on Friday.

He added that the attack on Raila was 'regrettable and uncalled for, and asked the police to investigate it.

The attack forced Raila to cut short a meeting with ODM delegates in Katilie ward at the beginning of his three-day tour in Turkana.

According to the Star, Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok said that 15 armed goons had been earlier hired by a local MP to bring about chaos at the ODM rally.

Wetangula now says Kenyans have the right to assemble and conduct rallies in any region of the country.

"It is very unfortunate that the state can allow such attacks against leaders who have tirelessly sacrificed for this nation," he said.

"Nkaissery must ensure the police apply the same force as that meted on innocent Kenyans who lost their lives during the demos in dealing with these attacks," he added.

He further said: "There must be no double standards when enforcing law and order. Every citizen and leader of this country is entitled to maximum security,"
