The Nyamira County Assembly majority leader Laban Masira believes former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is the best suited candidate to topple President Uhuru Kenyatta from power in the 2017 elections.
His remarks come after Wiper Democratic Movement; an affiliate of Cord coalition through its chairperson David Musila challenged the coalition’s principals; Raila, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula to name its presidential candidate within 30 days.
On Thursday, Mr Masira said the ODM party leader would give Jubilee sleepless nights than his co-principals given his long experience in politics.
“I think Cord should not front any other candidate for the presidency other than Raila. He is more experienced on matters politics and has consistently showed his worth by putting the government in check since 2013,” he said.
“He is a self-made politician and commands a huge following across the country. He has been campaigning since 2013, and if we make a mistake of fronting another candidate, then we should forget about presidency and that is a fact,” he added.
Masira challenged Musyoka and Wetangula to shelve their ambitions for Raila given his remarkable contribution to the country’s second liberation saying it will be something worth for his retires.
“Raila has made his intention clear that 2017 will be his final year. The two other principals should support him and focus on 2022. He is such an adored politician and we are all aware what had happened to him in two previous elections. Perhaps we talk on how to better election monitoring in 2017,” he said.
