Nyamira County Senator Mong’are Okong’o has shown dissatisfaction with the way old people in the county are being treated in regards to money for the elderly. Senator Mong’are said that the program initiated by the national government to pay people aged 65 years and above for upkeep every month and that the people in charge are now misusing the money by giving it out to other people. Speaking to this writer, Mong’are said that they will take a step against the officers in charge of the money in Nyamira County. The senator noted that 2,201 elderly people had register from Nyamira but it is too unfortunate that they are not getting the money anymore because officers who lack integrity. He called on the government to find a better way of sending the money directly to the elderly people’s phones instead of them going to queue for long hours and still end up not getting anything. He said this will help a lot in reducing the loss of this money to unknown people at the expense of their fathers. “We know our elders are not getting what the government put aside for them and I want to warn the officers in charge that we the stakeholders shall take a step against them if they don’t do the right thing. And the government should also find away to ensure that our wazee directly get their money through their phones or find a better way out,” he said.
