The call comes even as the government has put the provision of housing units as one of the 'Big Four' agendas in President Uhuru Kenyatta's to do tray in his second term.

Speaking in a function in Soy on Tuesday, Mandago said Eldoret is the fastest growing town in the country right now and pegged this fact on the call for piloting of the project.

"We call on the national government to start off the housing project in Eldoret. It will not disappoint because (the town) is the fastest growing urban in Kenya now," he said.

Eldoret is growing very fast, with the national assembly set to pass a legislation that formally declares it a City.

This, it is said, will happen before April.

Mandago asked Kenyatta's administration to start off the project with at least 5000 housing units in Eldoret.

The World Bank, during the World Urban Forum in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, about 10 days ago, predicted that there will be 500 cities, Eldoret included, by 2050.
