Attempts by the Jubilee administration to label Cord governors as corrupt will flop, a governor has said.
Busia's Sospeter Ojaamong said all corruption cases in the country point to the national government.
Addressing the press at St Cajetan Sirimba Primary School in Bunyala North Ward, Bunyala Sub County on Saturday, the Ojaamong said there are wide schemes by national government operatives to revive old cases to implicate governors in graft.
"The wider schemes to portray Cord governors as 'thieves' have been orchestrated by Jubilee with 2017 election plans in mind which they believe might give them an upper hand in the polls," he said.
"We are aware of these moves to soil us with negative propaganda. Some Cord governors have one to three files pending at the EAC, thus the threats they are beginning to unleash on some of them."
He denied claims by some Jubilee politicians that the sole role of Cord Co-Principal Raila Odinga is to fight corruption.
"The role of fighting corruption is vested on the Attorney General, EACC and Criminal Investigation Directorate and not the opposition leader as claimed by Jubilee operatives," added.
"Raila's role in the current constitutional dispensation is to ensure there is freedom of speech and association, transparency, accountability and good governance at the two levels of government. What Jubilee are trying to portray are sideshows which are doomed to fail."
The recent Auditor General's report points that some counties led by Cord governors lost sizable chunks of money which cannot be traced.
