According to University Academic Staff Union (UASU) Moi university chapter Secretary general Jack Willis Abok, the government had agreed to release the funds to facilitate the lecturers salary increment by June 30 but failed to keep the promise.

Addressing the press at the Moi University school of Health sciences grounds in Eldoret town on Thursday, Abok warned the government that lectures will accept nothing less than the agreed amount.

"Our main interest is to smoke out money hidden from us since the government agreed to pay us Sh10 billion and confirmed that the money was available but up to now it has not been released," said Abok.

"What we are hearing is that if there will be anything it is about Sh4.5 billion and we want to categorically tell the government that we will reject any attempts to short change us by releasing funds which are nor even half of what was agreed," he added.

In March 13, the government signed a Sh10 billion Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) that would have seen lectures get a 17.5 per cent increase in basic salaries and a 3.9 per cent hike on house allowance.

The lecturers together with the Kenya University Staff Union (KUSU) and the Kenya Union of Domestic, Hotels, Educational Institutions, Hospitals and Allied Workers (KUDHEIHA) however recently reignited the strike after the government failed to release the money.
