A section the youth in Ndumberi ward has urged the Kiambu county government and leaders to speed up the creation of employment opportunities as promised in their campaign pledges.

Speaking to this writer on Wednesday, they expressed displeasure with their leaders accusing them of failing to provide employment as they had earlier promised during campaigns to the 2013 general elections.

They claim that unemployment in the area is high yet nothing much is being done.

“We are asking our leaders who we elected to power to speed up employment opportunities they promised us,” said Boniface Njuguna, a youth in the area.

Njuguna said that many young people in the area are desperate and depressed as a result of unemployment.

He said that the government has to push for job creation for young people.

“The government should honour its pledge and give us job opportunities as they promised to us, we are tired of waiting on promises that are not being fulfilled,” said Mercy Gateru, another youth in the area.

Gateru appealed to the Kiambu government to involve youth in development projects and engage with them to come up with measures to curb unemployment.

They also asked the government to sensitise them on the existence and access to development funds. They claimed that they have little information on the specifics of the National Governments's Uwezo and the Kiambu County's Biashara funds.
