Thika District Business Association (TDBA) Secretary General Sam Chege has appealed to business owners and managers to allow their workers time-off during the festive season.
Speaking at Engen, Jua Kali on Tuesday, Chege said that there was a need for companies and industries in the town to allow their workers some days off to enable them spend time with their families during the holidays.
"Some companies give their workers just one day to break for the festivities after which they are required to report back to work immediately. This is not fair at all," Chege said.
He noted that the workers were pivotal in the production process of those companies and it was, therefore, important to appreciate their efforts by giving them a short holiday.
"I understand for some companies, this is their peak season and labour is of essence as far as production is concerned. But this should be no excuse to keep workers on duty even on holidays. Prior special arrangements can be made to allow everyone some ample time to travel home and celebrate with their families," Chege said.
He also called on companies in the area to be rewarding their workers at the end of the year to accelerate productivity.
