Kenya National Library Services chairman Samuel Nyangeso has challenged persons appointed to parastatals from Kisii to give back to the society.
Addressing the press on Friday in Kisii town, Nyangeso asked academicians from Kisii to go back to their former schools and support students in their academic pursuit.
He said this will help to transform the society by motivating the students and while adding that they need to support development initiatives at the grassroots.
He accused political leaders of selfishness by giving out handouts instead of having better programmes that can transform the society.
“These handouts cannot help our people get empowered economically. I ask these people who are ruining our county through the handouts to initiate projects and other programs that can transform our county,” he said.
“I also ask those who were appointed by our president Uhuru Kenyatta to support our people in villages. Am in the forefront myself to ensure that am doing my level best in giving back to the society,” he added.
The former Mayor of the defunct Kisii Municipality said he would lead a books programme in Kisii to enable students to have enough books for study.
