Speaking at the Bomas of Kenya, Shollei also urged political parties to offer support to women in leadership.
“The various political parties should also provide support to women leaders. They should change the rules for affirmative action and give direct tickets, to strong women aspirants, like some of those who have shown interest for gubernatorial posts,” she said.
The former Chief Registrar of Judiciary called on women to support each other, irrespective of their ethnic backgrounds.
“Our first tribe is ‘Mama’. We are women. We are meeting here as women – not parties or tribes. What we are calling for is support among ourselves for ourselves,” she added.
Shollei was addressing over 4,000 women gathered at the Bomas of Kenya at a meeting dubbed "2017 Ni Mama" aimed at empowering them.
The forum was organised by the Ministry of Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs.
