Traders mostly bar and restaurant owners said police officers have been using a lot of force closing their businesses yet they pay daily revenue to the county government of Nyamira.

The traders led by James Nyakangi called on Nyamira County commissioner Isaiah Nakoru to transfer rogue officers from the region.

“Police officers in the Nyamira are only interested in bribes from us. We are tired and we want them to be transferred to North Eastern parts such as Garissa, Wajir and Mandera so that they can use the same force to fight Al Shaabab,” said Nyakangi.

Nyakangi added that is a big shame for the security officers to force bar owners close their businesses yet they have failed to end even cattle rustling in Nyamira County.

“Police are using force to harassing innocent traders licensed to do business in Nyamira and local civilians yet the County has been experiencing livestock theft in the past few days. The same officers should first end crime before harassing locals and traders,” he added.
