The Kenya Cardiac Society (KCS) as urged Kenyans to go for cancer screening to prevent pre mature deaths from the complication.
The society has further stated that it is only through awareness that the public can get to know how to deal with circumstances leading to such deaths.
KCS president Dr. Bernard Gitura highlighted that heart complications are on the increase in the country due to low awareness among people.
“Hypertension is the number one factor for heart attack and stroke in the world, while RHD is the most common cause of heart failure in children and young adults below 35 year. RHD is preventable and treatable as it arises from a poorly treated sore throat,” he said.
He also added that those that are already under medication should make sure that they observe their routine to avoid more complications.
Cardiovascular diseases and heart complications claim 17.5 million lives every year, making it the leading cause of death globally.
