Machakos County governor's wife Lilian Nganga has encouraged locals to frequently go for cancer screenings for early detection and treatment.
Speaking at Masinga health center on Thursday, Ng'ang'a raised concerns over the rise in cancer cases.
She said that cancer has become a killer disease more than Malaria, HIV and Aids adding that Kenyans must act now to avert the disease.
“Cancer has become a threat to socio-economic development, that is why we are asking Kenyans to be careful about their lifestyles,” she said.
She noted that in collaboration with the county government she has started campaigns aimed at creating awareness to the people.
Ng'ang'a said her campaigns are aimed at creating capacity building, sensitising and offer counseling to cancer patients.
Ng'ang'a asked other leaders in the county to join and help fight cancer, a killer disease she said continue to rage havoc in the county.
Nganga observed that cervical and breast cancer is the most reported by women adding that men too are in danger of the same.
She revealed that over 500 women have been screened in Kathiani and Matuu adding that the screening campaigns will be launched to other sub counties soon.
