Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has defended himself against accusations that he was among top beneficiaries of the Sh1.8 billion NYS scam.
The Deputy Senate Majority Leader was severally mentioned in the scam by former Devolution and Planning Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru, in a sworn affidavit.
He faulted Waiguru for mentioning his name without producing evidence to support the claims, and asked Kenyans to go for Waiguru and leave him, for he was innocent.
"The public has been treated to sideshows by Anne Waiguru who is responsible for the loss of colossal amount of money in NYS. Anne Waiguru, she who has access to mobile phone triangulations of all Kenyans is dropping my name on payments of legal fees by Gethi and Kabura, without producing an iota of evidence,'' said the senator.
Murkomen who is a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto, said he does not know if Waiguru was innocent or not, but he was pretty sure of his innocence.
"I don't know if she is guilt or not but from the overwhelming piece of evidence in the public domain Anne Waiguru must stand trial or we can as well legalize corruption."
For the record, Murkomen said, "Our client then Ben Gethi is yet to pay our legal fees. And for avoidance of doubt I recorded a statement long time ago with EACC in response to Waiguru's preposterous allegations. I am authoritatively and with certainty waiting for the opportunity to respond to PAC or any other institution looking for the truth on this matter."
He said he had no apologies to make on behalf of his law firm, SMS Advocates for representing any client.
"So Kenyans wake up stop chasing wild goose. You either play darts with the war on corruption or you at least secure a conviction in a glaring case before us of two women carrying money in sacks," Murkomen said in a statement, Saturday morning.
