The KNUT has claimed that the county directors of education were threatening and forcing teachers to sign performance contracts even after the union had declared an industrial dispute.

Addressing the media in Kisii after celebrating the recent election of Gucha KNUT branch executive secretary Lucy Machuki, the union’s National Steering Committee members told the TSC to go slow on the contracting.

On the other hand, KNUT National Treasurer, John Matiang’i threatened the directors of undisclosed action by the union if they continued to harass the school heads.

Matiang’i alleged that the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) was bent on frustrating teachers who manned 2015 national examinations by refusing to pay them.

The signing of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between the TSC and the teachers, the treasurer alleged one of the parties involved could be defying president Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive,

According to him, the CBA that could have been signed within 30 days was yet to be effected several months down the lane.

Geoffrey Mogire, a member of the committee hailed the current negotiations between the employer and union.

The NEC official told the employer to stop withholding union dues by using a flimsy excuse of conducting validation which he said was a union affair.
