Garissa MCAs have called upon Governor Ali Korane not to rush into implementing the radical reforms he had promised when he was campaigning prior to the August 8 elections. According to the MCAs, the reforms are likely to create bad blood between county workers and the Governor, hence the need to handle the situation with caution. The Governor had pledged to bring major changes in the county once he takes over office, which included firing ghost workers. This comes after it emerged there are more than 3,000 ghost workers in the county who include NTSA officials, KRA officials, underage people and university students. County employees are said to have been in panic mode for the last three weeks following the Governor’s move to ask the Public Service Board to audit the number of workers and their duties.“It is our feeling that rushing the entire exercise will create bad blood between the workers and the governor before he fully constitutes his administration,” said Ali.According to The Star, a member of the Public Service Board who spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed that the board has already presented the list to the Governor.“We played our part, which was to prepare the list of staff vis a vis the establishment and subsequently presented it to the governor. It is upon him to act,” said the source.
