The Nakuru County Adult Education Officer has urged illiterate adults from Kiamaina to go back to school and acquire knowledge.
James Wanyoike says that many residents from Kiamaina do not know how to write nor read.
“It is pity to see a section of Kiamaina residents cannot read or write. Literacy is the key to development,” said Wanyoike.
The official added that personal development and economic growth hinge on the level of literacy one has.
He urged the illiterate adults to take advantage the county government has created and make use of it.
“The county government has set this department to benefit those who did not make it to school in their young age. By taking advantage, most of us will manage to improve our lives,” said the official.
Wanyoike was speaking on Monday at Kiamaina slums during a literacy awareness day.
He however challenged the county government to increase its allocation to the department to cater for more illiterate adults interested in joining the programme.
