A goalkeeper shocked football fans in Maseno on Monday afternoon after he took off the pitch during a football match.
It was a dramatic encounter that saw Lwanda 11 FC take on Weko FC from Lela in a community cup final at Ebusakami.
All went well until the 67th minute, when the Lwanda FC goalkeeper, Ibrahim Namwanga ran away from the goal, allowing the fired ball to land in the empty net.
The instance brought the game to a stoppage, with the goalkeeper citing the presence of a witch doctor in the opponent's team.
The shot-stopper forced a substitution after conceding the goal claiming his life was in danger.
“This is not pure football. I saw a crocodile approaching me. I can’t go back,” said Namwanga.
The dramatic goal was the only one during the match as Lwanda 11 lost the trophy to Weko. After the match, Lwanda coach Noah Wafula accepted the defeat and congratulated his players for the efforts they made saying that such incidences were common in football.
“It’s already done. Whether he saw the crocodile or the python, it's still fine. None of our players complained. It's just him. That is the world and its people” said Wafula.
