National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Odinga’s wife Ida has apologised to ODM aspirants who lost ‘unfairly’ during the party primaries.
Speaking in Kisumu during the consecration ceremony of Voice of Salvation and Healing Church Archbishop Winnie Owiti, Ida pleaded with the losers not to ditch the party but work together with the winners in ensuring that their party leader Raila is successful in his presidential bid.
While admitting that ODM primaries were flawed in some areas, she called on the disgruntled aspirants to accept the outcome of the nomination exercise and stop holding grudges.
“We know what happened in many places, and that primaries did not go well, but we ask God to forgive us,” she said.
Ida told ODM members that campaigns have reached a critical stage, and continuing infighting might hurt the NASA’s flag bearer chances of ousting President Uhuru Kenyatta of Jubilee Party.
“Politics is a game of democracy where we must have winners and losers. I am asking our brothers and sisters who missed the opportunity to clinch the ODM tickets to let go of their bitterness,” Ida was quoted by the Star.
She called for peace before during this electioneering period and urged Raila supporters to ensure they come out in large numbers to vote in the August 8 general election.
“The winner will be determined by the number of people who will cast the ballot. You have to turn up in large numbers and vote for Raila for him to win,” she added.
