Outgoing US ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec has urged President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga to go beyond the handshake.
Godec has called on the two leaders to deal with challenges bedevilling the country.
Speaking on Monday in Kisii county, Godec cited governance issues, corruption, protecting institutions and ensuring service delivery.
“The United States will be there supporting the process of actualising the handshake provided it is inclusive and is dealing with the real issues out there,” said Mr Godec.
He was speaking at Kisii County government offices where he had visited Governor James Ongwae.
On March 9, President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga decided to bury the hatchet and work together.
