President Uhuru Kenyatta has rubbished calls by governors to go for a referendum saying that it is uncalled for.
The president said that this would be a mockery to Kenyans who have battled out diverse challenges to have a new constitution since 1992.
“It is not wise to go for a constitution change only one year after they are in power. It will erase all the good work, time and money people invested into this new constitution,” he added.
Kenyatta was speaking at the Olkaria Power plant in Naivasha where he cautioned governors to stop inciting Kenyans. He said they will face the full wrath of the law.
“If you have to name names in any of your speeches, ensure you have enough evidence. Do not talk just for the sake of talking,” he added.
The head of state added that it was time to develop the country and not for political bullying.
“They should instead focus on building of the nation and their counties. This war of words will take us nowhere. Kenyans are already tired from this cheap politics,” he added.
He appealed to Kenyans to reject cheap leaders who are not development minded.
