Kenya has finally won a gold medal in the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.
Wycliffe Kinyamal gave Kenya the victory, after a stunning win in the men's 800m final on Thursday.
Kinyamal crossed the line ahead of defending champions Nigel Amos of Botswana in a time of 1:45:11, while Englishman Kyle Langford settled for silver in a personal best.
The other Kenyan in the race, Jonathan Kitilit, finished sixth.
"We agreed that Kinyamal goes ahead and I keep a close watch on Nigel Amos," Kitilit said when he spoke to the media.
"Kenya hadn't won any gold medal before the race and we said there's no way we could miss the gold. It was a tactical race."
Kenya has not been able to bag a gold medal, in what many fear might be the worst performance by the national team in the games.
the country has already lost three gold medals that it won in the last games; 5,000m men, 1,500 women, and 10,000m women.
