Kenyans have expressed disappointment following a standoff between immigration officials and Miguna Miguna.
They disowned a 'golden' handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA coalition leader Raila Odinga on March 9, saying it should be ripped off.
This is after Odinga was humiliated at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Monday night.
Odinga had arrived at the airport to secure the release of the self-proclaimed NRM general who had been detained at the airport after failing to avail his passport to the immigration officers.
Miguna had arrived from Canada following a court order, where he had been deported a month ago by the Kenyan government.
Kenyans on Twitter wondered why the truce deal between Odinga and Uhuru could not be used to allow Miguna into the country.
Below are the reactions:
@JamesOleKiyiapi
We all expected that the Uhuru-Raila handshake heralded new beginnings. Looks like we celebrated too early. As Kenyan, I don't like how Miguna Miguna is being treated contrary to court rulings!
@atanasi_
MOST SHAMEFUL things that happened at JKIA. - MigunaMiguna being treated like a Terrorist - Raila Odinga being humiliated. What was the need for HANDSHAKE ? - The Attack on media.
@C_NyaKundiH
I refuse to buy the argument that Raila could not facilitateMiguna's entry even after appearing at JKIA. With the recenthandshake, even a phone call from Raila would have facilitated Miguna's entry. Baba is a member of the unholy alliance that plotted all this!
@EngnrDan
I apologise for supporting the handshake. The presence of Jeff in the flight that was to re-deport Miguna Miguna is a sign that the orders came from state house where Raila's younger brother stays. He should wake up early in the morning and revoke it. #MigunaReturns
@itsamaddworld
Once Raila agreed to the handshake without public disclosure of the details, Uhuru can lead him around on a leash. Starting with the Miguna fiasco.
@MirikauFredrick The bloody handshake and the whole JKIA drama will dearly cost Raila . Time to fix up things and use the people's power to get Miguna back in the country. The courts CANNOT. It's a banana republic.
@MuthokaTito
Before the HANDSHAKE, Raila Odinga was the MOST POWERFUL HUMAN being in Kenya. After the handshake,Raila became a mere village elder. That's why he can be humiliated at JKIA by junior officers. That's why he couldn't successfully intervene to have Miguna allowed into country.
@owilijunior
The aftrmath of the empty oath bares squarely on the shoulders of Raila not miguna,the handshake was hell a betrayal but we still want to hear baba's voice on ths
@ColloBrandon1
The kind of disrespect shown to our people's president the right honourable Raila Amollo Odinga that he can struggle fighting for Miguna with the police pushing him,, to me thehandshake meant nothing at all, Raila left so mad that he wouldn't even address the media.
@mikeokok2010
What reforms will Raila be able to push through thehandshake if he was not even able to stop the rogue police from manhandling Miguna? This handshake will achieve absolutely nothing! We should have just remained enemy of the despots!
@kenyanpeasant
Two theories. Either Ruto planned this Miguna saga to devalue the handshake . Or he was the orchestrator of thehandshake to eventually devalue Raila . Either way he wins. On strategy.
