“Nine farmers trapped by flood water at Chariot farm, Garissa, after River Tana broke its banks, have been rescued,” read the Red Cross tweet.

This comes in the backdrop of heavy rains which have since Friday hit parts of Kenya causing massive havoc in most counties. Garissa come about to be one of the greatest affected parts.

In Wajir County, it was reported that a portion of the road to Garissa was cut off following heavy rains.

The Tana River had its banks surge and overflowed into the villages nearby the area which was a disaster for farmers beside the river who had to eject from their farms and hurry for safety in upper grounds. However, in a report by Muhumed Burale, the county government said it had previously advised the people to move a safer area where floods would not affect them but instead, they decided not to hid the government's advice and incurred great losses.

Nearly 5 villages in Garissa were affected so far, although KRCS is has said that it is carrying out an assessment to reach to those trapped in farm lands.
