Speaking at Wangige market on Monday, Governor  William Kabogo said that plans are in the offing to reduce levies being charged on traders and hawkers.

Kabogo said that his government is committed to create a conducive environment for business people.

“We are working on a plan to reduce levies charged on traders to enable them conduct their businesses,” he said.

Governor Kabogo at the same refuted claims that the county is frustrating hawkers at traders.

He said that what they are doing is to create and establish modern markets for hawkers. He said that the move to evict hawkers is not political.

The county governor further cautioned county politicians against inciting traders and hawkers.

Kabogo accused some leaders including Thika lawmaker Alice Nga’ng’a of inciting hawkers saying it is against the law for anyone to incite others.

The Thika lawmaker has several times alleged plot by the county government to evict hawkers from the Madaraka and the Jamhuri markets in Thika.
