The coastal region has a reason to smile after the Port of Mombasa was declared the best transit and logistics port in Eastern and Southern Africa.The port came third after the Port of Durban and Port of Ngurura in the best container terminal productivity category.KPA managing director Catherine Mtuiri was full of joy when she stepped forward to receive the award on behalf of the authority.The ports of Durban and East London took position two and three respectively in the terminal productivity category.This good performance by the Port of Mombasa will help raise the profile of Kenya and help boost maritime trade.President Uhuru Kenyatta has spoken before of the need to modernise the port so as to boost trade.
