Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno on Tuesday flagged off 2,000 liters of assorted pests products that will be distributed to all farmers across the County.
This comes amid an outcry by the public on the rise of fall armyworms that has threatened to continuously destroy the county's pride, 'the food basket'.
Flanked by County Executive in charge for Agriculture Samwel Yego, Chemno said it is a relief to maize farmers who had opted to seek traditional avenues of killing the worms.
According to Teressiah Karanja who represented the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, State Department of Crop Production, the pest products will be used by the county officers in charge of agriculture department to teach farmers on how and when to apply the components in their crops.
"Uasin Gishu County is among the key counties that were chosen by the ministry in the fight of the worm since it is the country's food basket," said Karanja.
"The 2,000 liters of pesticides have been researched and proven to subdue the worms," she added.
Agriculture CeC on his part disclosed that upon county having its pests consignment in place, the distribution process will kick off immediately.
"Once we receive the procured pests, we will go directly to Sub-counties or the Wards depending on the criteria of distribution that will be preferred by farmers," said Yego.
He noted that the county will prioritize areas that are believed to be most affected by the pests.
