Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago is calling on parents who live with disabled children to take them to government institutions so that they can be helped.
Speaking to members of the press on Friday at County Headquarters, Governor Mandago said his administration plans to establish an ultra-modern institution that will aid People Living With Disabilities (PLWDs) nurture their talents.
"This is a wakeup call to those parents still hiding their children that they need to consider taking them to school since the National Government's free education is meant for everyone," said the governor.
Mandago noted that his administration has channeled funds that will see an upgrade of the County Rescue Centre.
“We also plan to ensure that 5 percent of our employment opportunities go to PLWD’s,” he said.
The County boss added that there is a 17 acres piece of land in which his administration in conjunction with the National Government will initiate projects which will benefit PLWD’s in the region.
"I’m urging the national government to sensitize all PLWD’s who are above 18 years to seek a National identification card to enable them access equal opportunities," said the County chief.
He further cautioned unscrupulous individuals taking advantage of PLWD’s and using them as a cash cow noting that they will not be tolerated in Uasin Gishu County.
