A billboard erected in honour of ODM leader Raila Odinga and Kisii Governor James Ongwae was descended on and vandalized by unknown goons.
Last week, Ongwae, who has also been tasked with NASA campaigns in vote rich Gusii region, mounted billboards across the town ahead of Odinga’s tour.
Jubilee strategists have earmarked Gusii region as tossup, findings which were disputed by Odinga during Wednesday’s tour.
“They keep on saying that Kisii is a swing region and that is a lie. I am sure that you are all in NASA and we shall scoop more votes in August,” he said.
The motive behind Monday night’s vandalism is yet to be established and neither Ongwae nor Jubilee team has issued a statement.
With only two months to elections, Ongwae is fighting a mother of all battles and will face Jubilee’s Chris Obure, Manson Nyamweya of KNC and Patrick Lumumba of Wiper.
In a move to solidify his voting block, Ongwae reappointed Joash Maangi, who had decamped to Jubilee as his running mate although the move has been challenged by Kisii’s living in the diaspora.
“We are asking Odinga to intervene and have Maangi dropped. He is a Jubilee sympathizer,” said Lister Nyaringo.
