Gor Mahia will face Simba Sports of Tanzania at Afraha stadium in the Sportpesa Cup final and are widely tipped to progress considering they are playing on home soil.
The winner of the match will head to Liverpool to face English Premier League side, Everton, to play in a friendly match with the Merseysiders.
Gor already played the English side last year in June and losing 3-1 thanks to Wayne Rooney’s exploits as Everton’s star player.
The winner of the 3 pm Sunday match will not only have the special chance of gracing Everton’s Goodison Park stadium but will also pocket in excess of Sh3 million.
The Sh3 million will be a great windfall for the Kenyan side considering they are also doing well domestically and will have a lot of funds to strengthen in weak areas as there are more bonuses coming when they finally win the KPL trophy at the end of the current season.
Gor coach Dylan Kerr is confident his boys will emerge victorious against the Tanzanians whom he says he respects so much.
“I have told the boys since the tournament began last Sunday that our focus is Goodison Park. When they go to the pitch [on Sunday] they know very well that is what I have been singing to them daily like the Kenyan national anthem. It has been ringing in their heads and hopefully, it will translate into goals and a win,” said an enthusiastic Kerr.
It will be a beautiful thing watching them play in Liverpool which is one of the world’s most popular destinations for travelers.
