Seven players from the 2017 SportsPesa Premier League champions Gor Mahia have been included in the provisional 25-strong Harambee Stars squad for the 2017 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup.

The regional tournament will kick off on December 3 in Kenya.

Dependable goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch, defenders Musa Mohammed, Harun Shakava and Wellington Ochieng, midfielders Ernest Wendo and Kenneth Muguna and striker George “Blackberry” Odhiambo are the K’Ogalo players in the team, the most from any club, named on Wednesday.

GOtv Shield winners AFC Leopards have contributed the second highest number of players in the squad, five - goalkeeper Gabriel Andika, defender Dennis Shikhayi, midfielders Whyvonne Issuza and Duncan Otieno, and striker Vincent Oburu.

Not surprising this season’s league Golden Boot winner Masoud Juma of Kariobangi Sharks makes the squad, composed entirely of home-based players, together with teammates Patillah Omotto and Ovellah Ochieng.

Vihiga United’s defender Bernard Ochieng is the only player from the National Super League in the team.

The called up Stars players reports to camp at the Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani in Nairobi on Sunday, November 26.

Kenya is drawn in a tough Pool A of the Challenge Cup that also has Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro Stars, The Heroes of Zanzibar and guest side Mediterranean Knights of Libya.

The players will get to meet and interact for the first time with new coach Belgian Paul Put who was appointed on a two-year contract on Saturday, November 18.
