Kenya Premier league leaders Gor Mahia eased themselves to a 1-0 win over sorry Sony Sugar to go six points clear at the top of the league standings.
Ephraim Guikan’s lone strike on the 40th minute compelled the sugar millers to more misery as they remain rooted at the bottom of the league while Gor continued with their march to glory with another fairly complete performance.
The goalscorer was called into action following the unfortunate state of affairs prior to the match when Jacques Tusiyenge who was to start was injured in pre-match warm up.
Coach Dylan Kerr named a star-studded line up and was repaid with the boys producing scintillating displays in putting Sony to the sword and ensuring that the sugar millers were always on the back foot and defending deeply for prolonged periods of the game.
Sony keeper Kevin Omondi was called into action on several occasions to prevent Gor from adding more gloss to the scoreline and ensured that the score remained respectable.
Meddie Kagere was unlucky on numerous occasions as well and could have a hat-trick before the hour mark having been in position to hit the back of the net on more than three occasions.
Sony lost their eighth game of the season.
Their performance in Kisumu was no respite fpr their diminishing status in Kenyan football.
Gor’s goal difference of +17 is the highest by any team in the KPL.
It was a good response from their thrilling 3-3 draw with Sofapaka the last time out and they now look up to the coming games to ensure they remain top till the last game and kick.
