Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia striker Meddie Kagere has said beating their bitter rivals AFC Leopards in the KPL Super Cup this Sunday will give the team the best motivation ahead of the new season.
The two sides clash at the Afraha Stadium in the season curtain raiser and the Rwandese national believes that a win for K'ogalo will grant them the much needed boost even as they prepare to mount a title defence of their crown.
"We want to start the season on a high with a winning mentality. Leopards is a big team and beating them will motivate us to approach the continental matches with confidence," he said.
Kagere however bemoaned the exit of his former teammate Kenneth Muguna with whom they formed a formidable goal-scoring combination last season. Muguna recently moved to Albanian side KF Tirana.
"Kenneth was a good player. We had a very good partnership and the balls he passed to me I scored. I never missed any chance created by him. Losing such a player is a big blow to the club. However we have got a good replacement in Humphrey (Mieno) who is experienced. Gor always goes for the best players in the league so that tells you a lot about his quality," he said.
The Green Army will be hoping to extend their dominance against an Ingwe side which they twice beat 3-0 last season.
