[Photo/courtesy]It will be the third time in history that the ‘Mashemeji derby’ is played outside Kenya.The first time the two teams faced off outside the country was in 1980 during the final of the East and Central Africa Club Championship in Blantyre, Malawi.Kogallo bagged the title after humbling defending champions AFC Leopards who had clinched the title the previous year in Mogadishu, Somalia.Five years later the two rival clubs met in the final of the same championship in Khartoum, Sudan, where Gor Mahia won 2-0.Ingwe will be aiming to avenge their 3-0 loss to Gor Mahia in the first leg of the 2017 ‘Mashemeji derby’ played early last month.Enroute to the SportPesa Super Cup final AFC Leopards trounced Singida United on post match penalties before seeing off Tanzanian giants Yanga in the semifinals.Gor Mahia stormed into the final with a comfortable 2-0 win over Jang’ombe from Zanzibar before defeating Nakuru All Stars by the same margin in the semifinals.The winners of the tournament will pocket three million shillings.
