Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia has appointed Harun Shakava as its new captain following the exit of Musa Mohammed who has moved to Albanian side KF Tirana. The central defender is one of the longest serving members of K'ogalo having joined the club in January 2014.
Shakava will be deputized by goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch after Rwandese striker Jacques Tuyisenge turned down the position having deputized Mohammed during the 2017 Kenya Premier League campaign.
There were expectations that either Tuyisenge or hard tackling Ugandan defender Godfrey Walusimbi could be handed the mantle having aided Mohammed in his leadership duties last season but head coach Dylan Kerr seemed to have his own plans.
Shakava has his work cut out after Gor won their sixteenth league title.Expectations are however high from the ever demanding fans and with the Confederations of Africa Football (Caf) champions league looming large, the Kenyan international will have to rise to the occasion.Other than the two assignments, the club will also be taking part in other domestic tournaments like the GOtv shield and the Top 8 bonanza.
K'ogalo will begin their continental assignment against Equatorial Guinea side Leones Vegeterianos at home on February 10 while their KPL season begins with a super cup tie against arch rivals AFC Leopards at the Afraha Stadium on January 28.
