Kenya Premier League (KPL) Champions Gor Mahia defeated Sony Sugar 1-0 in a league match played at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu on Wednesday afternoon.

The league leaders got the win courtesy of a goal by Ephrem Ghuikan.

But what followed after the match is what has become the talk of the Lakeside town.

At least three people sustained injuries during crowd trouble after the match.

After the final whistle, a section of fans turned on one another, exchanging punches, stones and metal objects, prompting police to step in and quell the chaos.

The clash reportedly pitted Nairobi based Gor Mahia fans against those of Kisumu. Some fans – in Gor Mahia jerseys could be seen with blood rolling from the head. 

Jacob Mulee and Bernard Otieno - two TV commentators covering the match were also not spared.  

The two were seen covering their eyes after police lobbed tear gas to disperse crowds.

Gor Mahia now travel to Nakuru to compete in the SportPesa Super Cup. The one-week tournament which kicks off on Sunday features four Kenyan teams and four other teams from Tanzanian.

The Kenyan teams are Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards, Kakamega Homeboyz and Kariobangi Sharks. Gor Mahia are the defending Champions after winning the inaugural edition last year in Tanzania.

The winner of the tourney will travel to England to play against EPL side Everton in August this year.
