Kenya Premier League (KPL) Champions Gor Mahia condemned debutants Vihiga United to a fourth league loss this season with a 1-0 win in a match played at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu on Saturday.
Gor Mahia’s lone goal was scored by Rwandese striker Jacques Tuyisenge in the 58th minute.
The win moved Gor Mahia back to the summit of the Premier league with 19 points; two ahead of second placed Mathare United.
Vihiga United has now registered the fourth loss in the league this season, out of the 8 matches played in 2018. The Vihiga County sponsored side drew the other four matches.
Yesterday's result makes Vihiga and Thika United the only teams yet to win a match this season.
Elsewhere, Posta Rangers beat Thika United 3-1, Nzoia Sugar defeated Sony Sugar 1-0, Kakamega Homeboyz registered the same score line against Bandari FC, while Sofapaka beat Nakumatt FC 2-0 in other KPL matches played on Saturday.
Gor Mahia used the match against Vihiga United as a curtain raiser ahead of next week’s CAF confederations’ Cup playoff clash against South Africa’s SuperSport United.
The second leg match will be played after 10 days in South Africa with the winner joining the lucrative group stage.
