Meddy Kagere was named the Most Valuable Player in the Premier League last season in the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya that took place on Monday evening.
“I did not start well last season but after getting to the team, I settled my mind and tried to improve. I always have targets and what to achieve at the end of every season,” he said.
“I really expected this, I knew I had to make sure that I do all that it needs to help the team to achieve something together, the season was tough as all teams we faced were not easy to play against. We are always pushing hard and we tried really hard to lift the title,” he added.
Kagere helped Gor Mahia win the title last season, topping the league ahead of Tusker FC, who won the title the previous season.
Kariobangi Shark goalkeeper Jeff Oyiemba took home the golden gloves award, beating Harambee Stars goalkeeper Patrick Matasi and David Juma to scoop the award.
Masoud Juma of Sharks won the top scorer award, after notching 17 league goals for his team.
Defender of the year went to Gor Mahia’s Musa Mohamed, who was crucial in their runner-up to winning the title.
Winners, runners-up and second runners-up will have a seat during Madaraka Day celebrations on June 1st 2018, the first national holiday presided over by the head of state.
