Kenya Premier League defending champions Gor Mahia on Thursday afternoon thrashed Zoo Kericho 4-2 at the Kericho Green stadium.

The champions, who humiliated Nakumatt FC 4-0 in their opener this season opener match went up 1-0 through Rwandan star Jacques Tuyisenge on the 35th minute, before Boniface Omondi added a second three minutes after the break.

Zoo Kericho skipper Johnstone Ligare alias Marende thumped a header in the 68th minute before Joachim Oluoch pounced onto a rebound to score the third in the 70th minute and three minutes later, substitute Samuel Onyango slotted home after new signing, Ugandan goalkeeper Martin Elungat failed to hold onto Meddie Kagere's shot. 

Slippery striker Nicholas Kipkirui who was named the new and young player of the year last season scored the second goal in the 75th minute, although they could not collect all points.

Gor have now ascended to the summit of the league with six points, same as Mathare United, who have an inferior goal difference. 

Gor Mahia coach Dylan Kerr, keen on their CAF Champions League match against Vegetarinos, rested regular players including Humphrey Mieno, Francis Kahata, and George Odhiambo alias BlackBerry.

Gor won their first leg match 2-1 in Machakos last week and will be preparing for the return leg.
