Gor Mahia overcame Sony Sugar in an entertaining Kenya Premier League match in Kisumu on Saturday.

Midfielder Ernest Wendo sent Gor Mahia ahead in the 21st minute, breaking loose in the middle and firing a stern shot past the stationary Sony Sugar custodian Kelvin Otieno.

The sugar millers replied 10 minutes later when January acquisition George Abege beat Boniface Oluoch with his effort.

Rwandan Meddie Kagere, who scored in K'Ogalo's 1-0 win over Kakamega Homeboyz last weekend, was at it again, coming off the bench to restore the visitor’s lead four minutes after the restart.

In another KPL match, veteran striker Stephen Waruru scored in the 77th minute to put Ulinzi ahead against Tusker FC, as he recorded his first goal of the season, connecting well with Daniel Waweru’s cross.

The soldiers looked to have done enough only for Tusker’s new signing Hassan Abdalla to grab a late, late winner.

Gor Mahia are currently on top of the league standings with 12 points from five matches.
