Gor Mahia and Sofapaka played out a thrilling 3-3 draw at Kenyatta Stadium in a match where K’ogalo dropped points for only the third time this season.
Innocent Wafula’s late goal meant Gor went home with a point to show for it after being in great danger of losing the tie.
Sofapaka’s Ezekiel Okare’s second half brace meant Gor had to employ all their firepower to overcome a determined Batoto Ba Mungu side.
Meddie Kgere and Bernard Ondiek scored a goal apiece in the first half to put Gor in control of the tie but they somehow failed to hold on as Sofapaka came with other strategies in after the restart where four goals were scored in a span of four minutes.
Ephrem Guikan had a first minute goal adjudged for offside as Sofapaka struggled to contain a confident Gor side in the opening stages of the contest.
Kagere grabbed the opener in the 9th minute having sat out Gor’sencounter with USM Alger.
Ondieki’s effort to find the top corner midway through the first half meant Sofapaka coach made an early substitution throwing Stephen Waruru into the mix to bolster his attacking options.
Kepha Aswani then cut Sofapaka’s deficit when he found the back of the net six minutes after the restart.
Okare leveled the scores in the 84th minute before going on tocomplete his brace two minutes later.
The late drama that also saw Wafula get on the scoresheet late on meant the contest was completed in scintillating fashion with Gor luckily escaping with a point.
