Kenya Premier League (KPL) defending Champions Gor Mahia are through to the next round of the Confederations of African Football (CAF) Champions League.
Gor Mahia progressed to the tournaments’ next round, after a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea’s Champions Leones Vegetarianos in the second leg of the preliminary round match played in Equatorial Guinea’s Capital Malabo on Wednesday evening.
The Kenyan Champions navigated through a tense second half after the home team scored in the 45th minute. Gor Mahia equalized in the 92nd minute.
The Green Army progressed to the second round with a 3-1 aggregate. The 16 time Kenya Premier League Champions had defeated Leones Vegetarianos 2-0 in the first leg encounter played at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, almost a fortnight ago.
Gor Mahia coach Dylan Kerr started with a strong lineup featuring goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch and new signings Wesly Onguso and Humprey Ochieng Mieno.
The team is now expected back in the country to face Kariobangi Sharks in a KPL match to be played on Sunday, February 25, 2018.
Gor Mahia match in Equatorial Guinea was played a few hours after their perennial rivals AFC Leopards were dumped out of the CAF Confederations Cup following a 0-0 scoreline against hosts Fosa Juniors of Madagascar.
