The Government of Kenya has unveiled an online portal to boost service delivery in the cooperative sector which has been struggling with adapting to the latest technology.

According to Cabinet Secretary for Industry, Trade and Cooperatives Adan Mohamed the online platform is set to benefit saccos by allowing to them to appeal to a larger audience. “The government has prioritised adoption of information and communication technology (ICT) as an enabler to growth of cooperative industry. The launch of an online portal is expected to promote efficient service delivery among cooperative organisations,” Mohamed said.

Kenya is known for having one of the most productive cooperative sectors in East Africa and the introduction of the portal will help improve the sector through digitisation.

“We are proposing large-scale use of appropriate digital tools to boost performance of savings and credit schemes that are a huge source of employment and revenue to the exchequer,” Mohamed added.

The CS believe that the move will help create a more efficient registration process and will continue to help the sector grow.
